Susanne Sweeny is one of ten star dancers in this season’s 4th Annual Dancing with Vero’s Stars, benefiting the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition, to be held the evening of Saturday, March 10 at The Waxlax Center at Saint Edward’s School in Vero Beach. The IRC Healthy Start Coalition develops, evaluates and funds a full spectrum of services to support pregnant women’s health, baby’s health and families parenting young children.

Sweeny is also an active member of the Indian River Medical Center’s Eagle Society and Vice President of the Grand Harbor Community Outreach Program, both major fundraising efforts of this residential community.  To support the IRMC, the Grand Harbor Golf & Beach Club and the Eagle Society hosted its fourth annual Medical Forum on January 24, focused this year on the prevention and early detection of cancer. This event coincided with the announcement by the IRMC that it will launch a strategic cancer program including more advanced technology and a strategic affiliation with a national center of excellence. Two physicians, Dr. Richard Milsten and Dr. Fred Dorey moderated a panel of four cancer specialists, Dr. Gregory McKay, Dr Heather S. Nagel, Dr. John Petersen and Dr. Marc Rose, who discussed the most current prevention and detection techniques. There are almost 200 families in Grand Harbor who belong to the Eagle Society and they have raised almost $2 million to help fund major IRMC enhancements. Susanne and her husband, Doug, work with the Eagle Leadership Committee to encourage more participation and more giving.
