It was a night full of local stars dancing the night away to raise more than $495,000 for the Indian River County Healthy Start Coalition.
Ten competitors, each paired with a professional dancer, squared off on various dances including salsa, tango and jitterbug during the eleventh annual “Dancing with Vero’s Stars” Saturday at the Riverside Theatre.
In the end, it was Robby Rivas, an engineer and fire medic for Indian River County Fire Rescue and a part-time lifeguard and his partner Marianella Tobar who won the coveted mirror-ball trophy. Kelly Donovan, owner of White Orchid Spa and her partner Robert Scott came in first runner-up with Pamela DeChellis, a physical therapist assistant, personal trainer and fitness instructor and her partner Nicholas Dimitrov grabbing second runner-up honors.
Martha Redner from Quail Valley Charities and her partner Dr. Glenn Tremml received the Top Fundraising honors of all time, earning more than $100,000 for the Healthy Start Coalition. Kelly Donovan and Robert Scott were the Top Online Fundraisers.
The Top Dance honors were a two-way tie between Robby Rivas and Marianella Tobar and Dr. Deni Malave-Huertas and Amy Trammell.
Inspired by the hit television show “Dancing with the Stars,” the red-carpet event once again brought the glitz and glamour of dancing to life, and plenty of cash to go with it.
The fundraiser, organized by the coalition, drew crowds who came to cheer on their favorite dancer and open their pocketbooks for silent auctions and more, all for a good cause, supporters said. The 10 couples helped raise a total of $495,000 that will assist the coalition, which provides pregnant women and families of newborns with resources and support they need.
